Battery Lane Development Team Continues Planning Process

Amidst the ongoing pandemic over the last several months, Brown Development and Aldon Properties have continued to work through its plans for the proposed redevelopment of its properties along Battery Lane in downtown Bethesda, MD.

As you may recall, Brown Development received approval of the Preliminary Plan in April 2020. It is expected that the first phase of development will begin with Site C, which is located at 4890 & 4900 Battery Lane, also known as Glen Brook and Glen Mont respectively. Design and engineering work for the building and surrounding site improvements are underway now, and our goal is to file a Site Plan application for the parcel within the next six months.

Please be assured that there will be additional updates and notices of community meetings long before any application is filed. The development team will hold a virtual community pre-submission meeting to gather public input from surrounding neighbors and local stakeholders. More information about this meeting will be shared at a future date.

It is important to note that the process for redevelopment is lengthy and it is not expected that any development activity would begin before early 2022. Current residents of the buildings will be given considerable notice and relocations will be facilitated to the surrounding Aldon properties. All other existing buildings will continue to operate until each Site Plan is approved and scheduled for redevelopment in the years to follow.

While Site A, which is located at 4857 Battery Lane, also known as Glen Wood, was originally planned to be the first development phase, Aldon Properties has no immediate development plans for the parcel as we continue to evaluate our options.

On behalf of our entire team at Aldon Properties and Brown Development, we thank you for your continued interest in the Battery Lane District redevelopment project and Brown Development’s vision to fashion the future Battery Lane District into the most beautiful and livable, urban-edge residential neighborhood in downtown Bethesda.
